There are industry pillars like Coinbase, Circle and Ripple. There are up-and-comers like Pyth and Zito.
And then there's Freedom Law School, which paid $40,000 to sponsor the conference, says founder Paymon Mottahede. News.
As attendees filed into the conference hall in Manhattan, the company's booth greeted attendees in all caps: “Never pay crypto taxes.”
Freedom Law School says customers don't have to pay federal income tax. If the US Internal Revenue Service goes after them for tax evasion, the company promises to defend them — for a fee.
For a single taxpayer with a salary of $100,000, choosing a “Restore Freedom Plan” would cost about $4,500 a year, according to Business's online estimator.
At the conference, crypto startup founder Mahesh Sashital raised his eyebrows at Freedom Law School's legal pronouncements.
“I really don't want to be associated with anything like this,” he said News.

But Messari didn't care. The Freedom Law School logo for the conference is on their website. Plastering was done across the boards at the conference venue. And business founder Peymon Mottahedeh spoke on the conference floor Monday about how not to pay taxes.
Messari's CEO Eric Turner said his presentation was part of his sponsorship package News. He declined to comment on the details of the deal, including the sponsorship amount.
“Messari works with a range of sponsors to address various issues that crypto users face,” Turner said. News. “Rather than trying to be the arbiters of solutions, our goal is to create conversations between people in the industry.”
